2022 Batchelder Award honors Yonder: Restless Books for Young Readers for “Temple Alley Summer”

CHICAGO – Yonder: Restless Books for Young Readers is the winner of the 2022 Mildred L. Batchelder Award for “Temple Alley Summer.” The award was announced today by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), during LibLearnX, held virtually January 21 - 24. 

The Batchelder Award is given to the most outstanding children’s book originating in a language other than English in a country other than the United States, and subsequently translated into English for publication in the United States.

Cynthia Levinson, Evan Turk win 2022 Sibert Medal

CHICAGO – Cynthia Levinson and Evan Turk, author and illustrator of “The People’s Painter: How Ben Shahn Fought for Justice with Art” were named the winners of the 2022 Robert F. Sibert Medal for the most distinguished informational book for children published in 2021. The award was announced today by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), during LibLearnX: The Library Learning Experience, held virtually Jan. 21 – 24. 

2022 Odyssey Award for Excellence in Audiobook Production for Children announced

CHICAGO – HarperAudio/Katherine Tegen Books, producers of the audiobook “Boogie Boogie, Y'all,” have won the 2022 Odyssey Award for Excellence in Audiobook Production for Children. HarperAudio/Quill Tree Books, producers of the audiobook “When You Look Like Us,” have won the 2022 Odyssey Award for Excellence in Audiobook Production for Young Adults. These wins mark the first year that the Odyssey Medal is being awarded in two age categories.

Fred Rogers Productions wins Excellence in Early Learning Digital Media Award for “Alma’s Way”

CHICAGO – Producer Fred Rogers Productions is the 2022 recipient of the Award for “Alma’s Way”. The award was announced today by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), during LibLearnX: The Library Learning Experience, held virtually January 21 - 24.

Grace Lin wins 2022 Children’s Literature Legacy Award

CHICAGO – Grace Lin is the winner of the 2022 Children’s Literature Legacy Award honoring an author or illustrator, published in the United States, whose books have made a significant and lasting contribution to literature for children. Her numerous works include “The Ugly Vegetables” (Charlesbridge, 1999) and “The Year of the Dog” (Little, Brown and Company, 2006).

Corey R. Tabor wins Geisel Award for “Fox at Night”

CHICAGO – Author and illustrator Corey R. Tabor is the 2022 recipient of the Theodor Seuss Geisel Award for “Fox at Night”, published by Balzer + Bray, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers. The award was announced today by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), during LibLearnX: The Library Learning Experience, held virtually Jan. 21 - 24. 

AILA announces 2022 American Indian Youth Literature Awards

CHICAGO — Today American Indian Youth Literature Award winning titles were highlighted during the American Library Association (ALA) Youth Media Awards, the premier announcement of the best of the best in children’s and young adult literature.  

YMA highlights 2022 Asian/Pacific American Awards for Literature youth category winners

CHICAGO - The Asian/Pacific American Librarians Association (APALA), an affiliate of the American Library Association (ALA), announced 2022 winners of its Asian/Pacific American Awards for Literature youth categories today at 8 a.m. CT, during the ALA Youth Media Award announcements at LibLearnX: The Library Learning Experience, held Jan. 21-24. 

2022 Sydney Taylor Book Award winners announced

CHICAGO – The 2022 winners of the Sydney Taylor Book Award, administered by the Association of Jewish Libraries, an affiliate of the American Library Association (ALA), were announced at 8 a.m. CT, during LibLearnX: The Library Learning Experience, held Jan. 21 - 24.

The Sydney Taylor Book Award is named in memory of the classic All-of-a-Kind Family series author Sydney Taylor. The award recognizes titles for children and teens that exemplify high literary standards while authentically portraying the Jewish experience.
