American Library Association announces 2022 Youth Media Award winners

CHICAGO - The American Library Association (ALA) today announced the top books, digital media, video and audio books for children and young adults – including the Caldecott, Coretta Scott King, Newbery and Printz awards – at its LibLearnX: The Library Learning Experience, taking place virtually from Chicago.

Announcing the 2022 Excellence in Children’s and Young Adult Science Fiction Notable Lists

The Core Committee Recognizing Excellence in Children’s and Young Adult Science Fiction presents the 2022 Excellence in Children’s and Young Adult Science Fiction Notable Lists. The lists are composed of notable children’s and young adult science fiction published between November 2020 and October 2021 and organized into three age-appropriate categories. The annotated lists will be posted on the website at www.sfnotables.org.

'The Thousand Crimes of Ming Tsu,' 'A Little Devil in America: Notes in Praise of Black Performance' receive 2022 Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction

ALA to announce the next classics in children’s and YA literature and media

CHICAGO - The American Library Association (ALA) will announce its Youth Media Awards at 8 a.m. CT, Jan. 24, 2022. Selections will span more than 22 categories, including the coveted Newbery and Caldecott medals, Printz Award and Coretta Scott King Book Awards.

YALSA announces 2022 Excellence in Nonfiction for Young Adults Award finalists

CHICAGO – The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), selected five books as finalists for the 2022 Excellence in Nonfiction for Young Adults Award, which awards the best in nonfiction published for young adults ranging from 12 through ages 18 highlighting excellence in writing, research, presentation, and readability for young adults. 

YALSA announces 2022 William C. Morris finalists

CHICAGO – The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), selected five books as finalists for the 2022 William C. Morris Award, which honors the year’s best books written for young adults by a previously unpublished author. YALSA will name the Morris Award winner virtually at the Youth Media Awards on Jan. 24, 2022, during the ALA’s virtual LibLearnX: The Library Learning Experience.

Longlist for 2022 Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction announced

CHICAGO – A total of 45 books (23 fiction, 22 nonfiction) has been selected for the longlist for the 2022 Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction. The list is now available on the awards’ website. The six-title shortlist—three each for the fiction and nonfiction medals—will be chosen from longlist titles and announced on Nov. 8, 2021.

Applications Open for 2022 AASL Awards

CHICAGO – Applications for the American Association of School Librarians’ (AASL) 2022 awards are now available. AASL members are encouraged to nominate a colleague or themselves to be lauded for their outstanding talent and dedication to the profession as part of this prestigious awards program. AASL awards and grants recognize excellence and showcase best practices in the school library field in categories that include collaboration, leadership, and innovation.

IFRT accepting nominations for 2022 Eli M. Oboler Memorial Award

The Intellectual Freedom Round Table is pleased to announce that beginning in 2022 that the Round Table will be awarding the Eli M. Oboler Memorial Award annually. The Oboler Award will honor journal articles in even number years (2022, 2024, etc.) and then honor books in odd number years (2023, 2025, etc.) In the autumn of 2021, the Oboler committee is seeking nominations for the 2022 journal article award. The award honors a literary work or series of works in the area of intellectual freedom.
