Princeton Public Library wins the ALA/Information Today, Inc. Library of the Future Award

CHICAGO — The American Library Association has named the Community Collaboration for Enhanced Technology Services at the Princeton (N.J.) Public Library the 2013 winner of the ALA/Information Today, Inc. Library of the Future Award. This award is presented annually to a library that demonstrates innovative planning and development of patron training programs about information technology in a library setting.

YALSA announces Excellence in Library Services to Young Adults 2012 Program Award Winners

CHICAGO  —  The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association, selected 25 innovative teen programs to be featured at the 2013 ALA Annual Conference and included in a sixth edition of "Excellence in Library Service to Young Adults." These successful programs focus on addressing new or ongoing teen needs or interests in innovative or unique ways. 

Kathleen Reif, director St. Mary’s County (Md.) Library, receives 2013 Sullivan Award

CHICAGO— The American Library Association has awarded the 2013 Peggy Sullivan Award for Public Library Administrators Supporting Services to Children to Kathleen Reif, director of St. Mary’s County Library, Leonardtown, Md.  The Sullivan Award is presented annually to an individual in a library administrator role who has shown exceptional understanding and support of public library service to children.

Elizabeth Aversa receives the 2013 Beta Phi Mu Award

CHICAGO - Dr. Elizabeth Aversa, professor of library and information science at the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, Ala., has been selected to receive the American Library Association’s 2013 Beta Phi Mu Award. This annual award, donated by the Beta Phi Mu International Library Science Honorary Society, is presented to a library school faculty member or to an individual who demonstrates distinguished service to education in librarianship.

RUSA award winners signify excellence in reference services

CHICAGOThe Reference and User Services Association (RUSA) has selected the winners of its 2013 achievement awards, research and travel grants, which encompass the most outstanding librarians, libraries and projects in the field, and also highlight the promising leaders of tomorrow.

Heather Ketron named Scholastic Library Publishing Award winner

CHICAGO — The American Library Association (ALA) has named Heather Ketron the recipient of the 2013 Scholastic Library Publishing Award. The honor, which will be presented during the ALA Annual Conference in Chicago, is bestowed on a librarian whose extraordinary contributions to promoting access to books and encouraging a love of reading for lifelong learning exemplifies outstanding achievement in the profession. Ketron will receive a citation and $1,000 prize, donated by Scholastic Library Publishing.

2013 ACRL STS Innovation Award goes to Distributed Data Curation Center

CHICAGO – The Distributed Data Curation Center (D2C2), based in the Research Department of the Purdue University Libraries, has been selected as the 2013 recipient of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Science and Technology Section (STS) Innovation in Science and Technology Librarianship Award for their work on the Data Curation Profiles Toolkit

Neal Wyatt wins RUSA’s Isadore Gilbert Mudge Award for exceptional contributions to reference librarianship

CHICAGO—Neal Wyatt, doctoral candidate in the media, art and text program at Virginia Commonwealth University, is the distinguished recipient of the 2013 Isadore Gilbert Mudge Award — the highest honor for significant contributions to the field of reference librarianship presented by the Reference & User Services Association (RUSA).

Angela Carreño receives the Coutts Innovation Award

CHICAGO – The Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS), Collection Management Section (CMS) announces that the recipient of the 2013 Coutts Award for Innovation in Electronic Resources Management is Angela Carreño, head of collection development at New York University (NYU).

2013 ACRL STS Oberly Award goes to Scholl, Paster and team

CHICAGO – Jan Scholl and Amy Paster of Penn State University, along with their team, have been selected as the 2013 recipients of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Science and Technology Section (STS) Oberly Award for Bibliography in the Agricultural or Natural Sciences for their 4-H and Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) research databases.

The cash award and plaque will be presented to the team during the 2013 ALA Annual Conference in Chicago.
