2014 LLAMA career institute to feature seven writers and editors

CHICAGO — Join the Library Leadership & Management Association (LLAMA) in Philadelphia to learn from seven colleagues who are writing and editing professionally. ALA to announce the next classics in children’s and young adult literature and media

CHICAGO — Children’s and young adult authors, illustrators and publishing groups are waiting in anticipation for the 2014 American Library Association (ALA) Youth Media Award announcements. The ALA will announce 18 awards at 8 a.m. ET on Monday, Jan. 27 from the Pennsylvania Convention Center's Grand Ballroom A,  in Philadelphia.  The awards include the esteemed Randolph Caldecott Medal, Coretta Scott King Book Awards, Michael L. Printz Award and John Newbery Medal.

United for Libraries to host discussion groups for friends, trustees and foundations at Midwinter

PHILADELPHIA — United for Libraries will host discussion groups for Friends group members, trustees and library Foundation staff/volunteers at the 2014 ALA Midwinter Meeting in Philadelphia. All discussion groups will be held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center (PCC).

These are open forum discussion groups that give friends, trustees and foundation volunteers/staff an opportunity to network with others from around the country. Topics are determined by the interests of those in attendance.

CHICAGO — Sheryll Cashin, professor of law at Georgetown University, will keynote the 2014 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Sunrise Celebration during the American Library Association’s (ALA) Midwinter Meeting in Philadelphia. The celebration will take place from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 27 in room 113 A-B at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

Author signings, ARCs and more at 'Spotlight on Adult Literature' at Midwinter

PHILADELPHIA — United for Libraries, along with ALA Conference Services, will sponsor “Spotlight on Adult Literature” from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center Exhibit Hall at the 2014 ALA Midwinter Meeting in Philadelphia.

Participating publishers will host book and galley giveaways, author signings and more.

CHICAGO — Join the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) at the 2014 American Library Association (ALA) Midwinter Meeting in Philadelphia for the forum “Financial Literacy: Why Students Need Librarians to Get Involved.”  Hosted by ACRL President Trevor Dawes, associate university librarian at Washington University in St. Louis, the forum will take place from 10:30–11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, in room 120A of the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
