CHICAGO - On Friday, June 28, 2024, the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) will present a half-day preconference, "Bilingual Storytime Academy," during the 2024 ALA Annual Conference & Exhibition in San Diego.

This interactive preconference will provide an easy-to-follow framework for library workers who deliver Spanish bilingual storytime; for optimal learning, attendees should have a basic grasp of Spanish and storytime conventions. Attendees will learn about the selection of appropriate texts, how to prepare texts for storytime, translation practices to produce materials, and bilingual facilitation to implement programs that are rich in early literacy practices, linguistically sound, and culturally affirming. They will also engage in a sing-along to learn new songs, rhymes and finger plays – complete with manipulatives.
