CHICAGO —The Reference and User Services Association (RUSA) will host RUSA 101, a networking and orientation event for interested, new and current members from 3 - 4 p.m. on Friday, June 27 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Room S222, in conjunction with the 2014 American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference in Las Vegas.

RUSA, a division of ALA, serves librarians and library support staff involved in frontline reference, readers' advisory, collection development, business reference and other specialized areas of reference, genealogical research, management of local history collections, interlibrary loan and resource sharing, reference and outreach to special populations and emerging technologies in reference. Conference attendees involved or interested in these areas of librarianship are encouraged to attend RUSA 101 so they can learn more about the division activities and special interest sections representing each of these topics. RUSA member leaders will be on hand to answer questions about the division and help attendees best identify how they can be involved with RUSA projects and activities.

RUSA 101 is an incredibly valuable event that supports member involvement and engagement and an opportunity to meet colleagues face-to-face, find a home within RUSA’s special interest groups and connect with other members prior to the start of the conference. Any new, longtime or potential members of RUSA should make RUSA 101 the first official event of their conference experience.”

The event agenda includes a brief presentation about RUSA, a raffle for fun prizes and significant time for networking. RSVPs are not required, however interested attendees are encouraged to add RUSA 101 to their conference schedule.

The Reference and User Services Association, a division of the American Library Association, represents librarians and library staff in the fields of reference, specialized reference, collection development, readers’ advisory and resource sharing. RUSA is the foremost organization of reference and information professionals who make the connections between people and the information sources, services, and collection materials they need.
