AASL opens call for 2021 AASL National Conference Committee members

CHICAGO – The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) seeks a dynamic group of school library professionals to serve on the 2021 AASL National Conference Committee. The conference, taking place October 21-23, 2021, in Salt Lake City, Utah, is the only national conference dedicated solely to the needs of school librarians and their roles as educational leaders. AASL members may apply at www.ala.org/aasl/app.

Members of the committee are responsible for identifying and addressing the educational needs of conference attendees and enhancing the professional development growth of school librarians. Committee members receive complimentary hotel accommodations during the conference, early bird discount registration, and the opportunity to volunteer at a preconference workshop.

“Now is the time for all of us to work together and actively participate in our national organization,” said AASL President-Elect Kathy Carroll. “School librarians need access to resources and networking opportunities more than ever as we guide our learners during these unprecedented times. I hope you will consider volunteering to serve on the National Conference Committee to plan an engaging, and substantive experience for all participates.”

Available committee positions include conference co-chairs, programming co-chairs, author co-chairs, local arrangements co-chairs, social media co-chairs, and research into practice co-chairs. Information on the specific responsibilities of each position is available at www.ala.org/aasl/app.

Service on the national conference committee is a significant commitment. Once finalized, the committee will meet each month virtually and attendance is required. Members will be asked to work collaboratively with other committee members and meet critical dates and deadlines. Committee members must maintain their ALA/AASL membership during their appointment.

Applications must be received by 11:59 p.m. on June 17, 2020. Applicants will be notified by July 1.
