PHILADELPHIA — Those who work with, are members of and/or serve as board members of state friends of the library groups are invited to participate in the new United for Libraries electronic discussion group focused on topics of interest to statewide Friends groups.

PHILADELPHIA — Clarkston (Mich.) Independence District Library, a recipient of United for Libraries' 2013 Neal-Schuman Foundation Grants, successfully staved off closure by passing a millage of 1.25 for the library on Aug. 5. The millage, which was proposed but not passed in 2012, passed this time with more than 68 percent of the vote.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, President Barack Obama will sign the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, a bill that will open access to federal funding support to public libraries for effective job training and job search programs.
