CHICAGO The archive of the webinar “The Common Core and the Public Librarian: Reaching Patrons and Students” is now available to view as part of the American Association of School Librarians’ (AASL) professional development repository, eCOLLAB. The webinar explores the ways public librarians can become involved in the implementation of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and support their school librarian colleagues. To view, visit ecollab.aasl.org and click on “Complimentary Content.”

During the webinar, attendees explore how public and school librarians can work together to implement the CCSS in their school community. Presenters Margaux DelGuidice and Kathryn Roots Lewis provide an overview of the Common Core State Standards, share resources to help public librarians understand and use the CCSS and identify ways public librarians can support school librarians and patrons in navigating these standards.

The webinar complements a recently completed toolkit created by a task force comprised of members of AASL, the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) and the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA). The toolkit, “Common Core 101: A Guide to Learning and Action for Librarians” serves as a primer for public librarians. It provides an overview of the CCSS and outlines how public librarians can support their patrons and fellow librarians during the switch to national standards. The toolkit can be downloaded in PDF format at www.ala.org/aasl/ccss101.

While content on eCOLLAB is intended for AASL members and subscribers, access to the “The Common Core and the Public Librarian: Reaching Patrons and Students” archive is complimentary to all.
