Poster Session

The 2015 SIBF/ALA Library Conference Poster Session will be held in the Expo Centre in Sharjah on Wednesday, November 11, from 17:30 - 18:15.

As more libraries around the world are adapting RDA: Resource Description and Access, knowledge of how to catalog library materials using this new standard is a crucial skill. In this workshop, participants will learn how to apply RDA to describe library materials.  We will focus on cataloging Arabic language materials, with special emphasis on print monographs.  Exercises are designed using real-world examples of RDA concepts.  Participants will be able to solidify their skills through specially designed quizzes and hands-on practice.

Learning outcomes

After participating in this workshop, you will:

  • Create original records using RDA
  • Describe manifestation, item, work, and expression
  • Identify and record relationships between entities

Presenter: Magda El-Sherbini is a professor and Head of the Collection Description and Access Department at the Ohio State University Libraries. She is also adjunct professor at the School of Information Sciences at Kent State University.

What 2014 participants said

What a great conference. It was really inspiring. Memorable experience!
It's wonderful to have a conference like this in this region, allowing people to experience an ALA- quality conference.
Great interaction with librarians from other countries, and quality sessions with brilliant ideas to make our library much more
valuable and offer better services.
It's a spectacular achievement for SIBF and ALA to become partners and I am sure that will help in enhancing librarians’ skills in the Arab countries.
It was an opportunity to meet other librarians. Good networking opportunities!
The best part was the practices shared by librarians from their [own] libraries.
It united all LIBRARIANS together.
