The American Library Association (ALA) has selected Samantha R. Nunn of Stansbury Park, Utah as the recipient of the 2023 Tony B. Leisner Scholarship.

The $3,000 scholarship, named for an active ALA member and former member of the ALA Council, is awarded to a library support staff member pursuing a master’s degree in library and information studies. The scholarship was established with funds donated by Leisner.

Nunn says her interest in becoming a health sciences librarian was derived from her experience working with the Network of the National Library of Medicine. She comments, “I had the pleasure of engaging with librarians in many communities from many types of libraries. These included tribal, academic, public, and hospital librarians.” Nunn says she “discovered how important all libraries are in providing health information resources to their patrons.” She thought it was “amazing how librarians could impact their communities... by empowering them to make informed decisions about their health.”

Nunn hopes her library degree will allow her the opportunity to “take her education, knowledge, and skills to the next level by helping her to become a reliable health sciences librarian in order to provide patrons with the most trustworthy and accurate resources.”

Nunn will be attending Emporia State University (Emporia, Kansas).
