To plan for your library’s present and future, it’s essential to target patrons in their 20s and 30s. In this workshop, Katie LaMantia and Emily Vinci will present strategies and resources for reaching the 20s and 30s demographic. Using the insight they’ve gained throughout their careers, they’ll also share ideas and examples of effective programs and marketing approaches.

Topics include:

• Budgeting for programs
• Marketing your programs effectively to this demographic
• Working with community partners and off-site programs
• Planning and implementing series and stand-alone programs
• Using programming themes such as pop culture, nostalgia, DIY, educational/personal growth, and others
• Establishing ways to measure outcomes
• Overcoming challenges and unexpected obstacles

About the Instructors

Katie LaMantia is a Teen Librarian at the Schaumburg Township District Library in Schaumburg, Illinois. She is a former teen advisory board member turned Teen Librarian and is co-founder of NextGen, a social group for people in their 20s and 30s. She has a personal and professional appreciation and interest in pop culture and has presented at multiple state and national library conferences about libraries, teens, and 20s and 30s programming. When not running teen programs, tinkering with technology, and finding amazing books for young adults, she enjoys reading, writing, traveling, and extreme adventure activities. Katie is also a co-author of A Year of Programs for Millennials and More.

Emily Vinci is an Adult Fiction Librarian at the Schaumburg Township District Library where she co-founded NextGen, a social group for people in their 20s and 30s. She has interests in expanding library appreciation and knowledge of comics and graphic novels, as well as catering to hard-to-reach demographics such as the 20s and 30s crowd. A pop culture fiend, she is always looking for new ways to incorporate popular culture into the public library. When she isn’t working, she can usually be found reading comic books, watching movies, or curating her collections of Jaws and Jurassic Park memorabilia. Emily is also a co-author of A Year of Programs for Millennials and More.
