National Reading Group Month chooses Booklist again as sponsoring partner

CHICAGO — Booklist, the ALA’s review source, has been selected for the fifth year as a partner for the Women’s National Book Association’s October National Reading Group Month (NRGM), including the special Great Group Reads initiative.

Common Core State Standards—Booklist offers multiple resources

Anne Enright, Robert K. Massie, first recipients of the Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The American Library Association (ALA) is proud to announce the first recipients of the Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction, funded through a grant from Carnegie Corporation of New York. Anne Enright’s "The Forgotten Waltz" received the medal for fiction and Robert K. Massie’s "Catherine the Great: Portrait of a Woman" received the nonfiction prize. The medals recognize the best fiction and nonfiction books for adult readers published the previous year in the United States.

ALA and Carnegie Corporation of New York announce finalists for first Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction

CHICAGO — The American Library Association (ALA), along with Carnegie Corporation of New York, today announced six books as finalists for the 2012 Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction, to be awarded for the previous year's best fiction and nonfiction books written for adult readers and published in the United States.  Along with a medal to be awarded at the ALA’s annual conference in Anaheim, Calif., on June 24, each winning author will receive $5,000, and four additional finalists will each receive $1,500.

CHICAGO — The announcement and presentation of the first ever Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction will take place at the 2012 ALA Annual Conference from 8 p.m. - 10 p.m. on Sunday, June 24. Attendees at the event will be the first to hear which two authors win the medals for best fiction and nonfiction book for adult readers.
