To provide a forum to educate the library community about ongoing efforts to transition from the MARC Standard for bibliographic data. This interest group examines new approaches and strategies for implementing bibliographic data models within the framework of linked open data and semantic web technology. (Updated June 2018)

Composition

Interest groups are completely self-initiated, so appointments are not necessary.  Membership consists of any number of participants and is open to ALCTS and LITA members.  The leadership of the group is determined by the group.

Origin

The MARC Formats Transition Interest Group was established in 1990; renewed in 1993, 1995, 1998, 2001 and 2004. In 2011, the name of the group was changed from MARC Formats Interest Group to MARC Formats Transition Interest Group.  To contribute information about the history of this interest group, contact LITA's Web Coordinating Committee at litaweb@ala.org.
