Composition
The ALCTS New Members Interest Group (ANMIG) is an active community focusing on the concerns and interests of new ALCTS members and new library and information professionals. The group is led by a board of officers charged with developing interest group meetings at ALA conferences, plugging new members into the larger ALCTS division, engaging ANMIG members through social media platforms with relevant information and virtual events, and communicating with ALCTS the wants and concerns of the new membership.

Origin
Established in 2009 at the request of the ALCTS Board of Directors. Originally charged with helping new members successfully navigate the ALCTS structure, the charge has grown to include facilitating relationships between new members and ALCTS sections and providing a portal to section and committee information of use to new and potential members.
Get Involved
ALCTS values committed and active committee members. Qualified members are welcome to volunteer to serve on the ALCTS New Members Interest Group. The only criterion is the need to be active in your discipline and interest area. Take part as an officer, volunteer, or simply a member. We are an open group, composed of members and nonmembers of ALCTS and ALA. Members and volunteers can learn about the value of ALCTS, as well as build relationships with their peers, and possible mentors. Volunteer positions include:
Co-Chair: This position serves a one-year term, from July 1 to June 30 (at the close of ALA Annual Conference). The work for the position is mostly virtual, but conference attendance is required (if filled by two persons, conference attendance may be split, if agreed upon by co-chairs). The ALCTS New Member Interest Group (ANMIG) Chair is responsible for the overall direction of the group, implementing reoccurring and new activities, and communicating the wants and needs of the new membership to ALCTS leadership. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Plan and host regular ANMIG officer meetings
- Lead and collaborate with ANMIG officers to plan and accomplish ANMIG goals and objectives
- Making recommendations for new ANMIG chats and activities
- Helping plan chats and/or programs
- Assisting online or in person with programming during ALA Midwinter and Conferences
Secretary: This position serves a one-year term, from July 1 to June
30 (at the close of ALA Annual Conference). The positions can be virtual, conference attendance is not required, but welcomed. The ALCTS New Member Interest Group (ANMIG) Secretary is responsible for the management of the group's documentation and communication - including taking meetings minutes, posting minutes and other documents on PBworks, creating Doodle Polls to schedule meetings and chats, and creating surveys to gauge member interest. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Making recommendations for new ANMIG chats and activities
- Helping plan chats and/or programs
- Assisting online or in person with programming during ALA Midwinter and Conferences
- Fills in for the chair in his/her absence
- Makes recommendations for new ANMIG chats and activities
- Helps plan chats and/or programs
- Assist online or in person with programming during ALA Midwinter and Annual Conferences
- Promote ANMIG content to student ALA Chapters through ALA representative
- Make recommendations for new ANMIG chats and activities that would be relevant to current MLIS students
- Assist online or in person with programming for ANMIG events during ALA Midwinter and Annual Conferences
- Making recommendations for new ANMIG chats and activities
- Helping plan chats and/or programs
- Assisting online or in person with programming for ALCTS 101 during ALA Annual and Midwinter Conferences
- Making recommendations for new ANMIG chats and activities
- Helping plan chats and/or programs
- Assisting online or in person with programming for ALCTS 101 during ALA Annual and Midwinter Conferences
