Five Symposium Attendees Can Win $1,500 for their Library! Submit your idea now!

This year’s symposium, Helping Teens Build a Better Future within the Library and Beyond, is full of great sessions that are meant to inspire you with ideas you can take back to your library. YALSA, with funding in part from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation, would like to give you the chance to win $1,500 to implement your Symposium generated idea in your library!

If you have a great idea, submit it via a video pitch after the Symposium. Judges will give you feedback and score your idea. The finalists will receive $1,500 each and their idea will be shared with all attendees in an email after the Symposium.

Make a Make a Video Pitch & Win $1,500 for Your Library

Anyone making a video pitch need to make sure to:

  • Pitch an idea that fits at least one of the following categories:
    • Emerging Literacies
    • College and Career Readiness
    • Community Engagement
    • Connected Learning
  • Is connected to:
  • Specifically connects to at least one session attended at the symposium
  • Fits an identified need of teens and/or their families in your specific community
  • Clearly demonstrates a teens first approach to design (Involves teens in the planning and implementation stages)
  • Demonstrate that the funds will help your library reach a specific stated outcome.

Remember, you are being judged on the above criteria! Make sure that you specifically state in your pitch the category your idea fits into, how it is connected to YALSA, the program that inspired your pitch, the need it fits within your community, and how the funds will help you reach your goal!.

Keep in mind:

  • The submission deadline is December 15, 2017
  • All pitches should be a video recording
  • Pitches must be no more than five minutes
  • Only one submission per person or team
  • Previous winners are not eligible
  • All submissions must be made by fully registered Symposium attendees
  • Up to five pitches will be selected as winners
  • YALSA will announce the winners via e mail the week of January 1st.
  • Winners cannot use funds for staff wages or refreshments
  • Winners can use funds for service or programming support, materials/equipment, stipends for speakers/presenters
  • YALSA may use information presented in the pitches as a part of blog posts, journal articles, and future marketing. Any such use will include the name of the person or persons who made the pitch and identify their library or institution.
