Composition

Composition
There shall be at least five (5) members appointed by the Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect of BRASS to the Steering Committee.

Terms of Office
Members of the committee will serve for two years and shall be eligible for reappointment for a consecutive two-year term. Terms will be staggered so that continuity will be maintained.

Specific Duties & Format of Meetings
BRSDG sponsors discussions at the Midwinter and Annual meetings. Volunteer speakers are primarily from public and academic library settings but can also be from other institutions of interest to business librarians. After brief initial presentations, the discussion is opened to the floor for questions, comments, and observations on the topic. Once discussion of the main topic is completed, an open forum on any business reference subject or concern is held. Meetings generally last two hours. The discussion and open forum occupy the first ninety minutes. The Steering Committee meets for about thirty minutes after the discussion group adjourns to plan the next meeting. A topic is selected, suggestions for speakers are made, and members prepare a meeting announcement, other publicity, and photocopy and mail the announcement and the minutes of the previous meeting. Any other issues pertinent to the discussion group are taken up at this time.

Origin

The Business Reference Services Discussion Group (BRSDG) was formally established in 1986. The Discussion Group was the original forum for discussion among business librarians and others having an interest in business reference prior to the formation of BRASS.
