Libraries and archives are often asked by the communities they serve to conduct, advise on, or be the institutional home for oral history projects. The librarian or archivist is relied upon to help define an oral history project, provide background research, assemble technical resources, develop a list of interview questions, identify potential interviewees, train interviewers, create products, and house the resulting interviews. This webinar will give participants the foundation for successful oral history projects.

Participants will come away knowing the structure and essential elements of doing oral history projects.

Presenter
Barbara Truesdell is the assistant director of the new Center for Documentary Research and Practice at Indiana University, part of the IU Media School. She administers the center’s projects, and oversees its oral history interview archive, which was started in 1968. She has been doing fieldwork since 1985, and since 1992 has been conducting oral history training workshops for students, researchers, and community groups, including workshops in St. Petersburg, Russia, and Cluj, Romania.
