Charge

To encourage active participation in the open source community through developing, adapting, improving and fixing open source solutions for use in libraries. To promote the use of open source in libraries through education, distribution, and creating support structures to assist with appropriate implementation. To advocate for the development of appropriate standards and policies that are true to the spirit of the open source movement.

Composition

Interest groups are completely self-initiated and not appointed by LITA officers.  Membership consists of any number of participants and is open to LITA members.  The leadership of each group is selected by the group.

Origin

The Open Source Systems Interest Group was established in 2000 and renewed in 2003.  To contribute information about the history of this interest group, contact LITA's Web Coordinating Committee at litaweb@ala.org.
