About NISO

The National Information Standards Organization (NISO) is a non-profit association accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and it identifies, develops, maintains, and publishes technical standards to manage information in today's continually changing digital environment. NISO standards apply to both traditional and new technologies and to information across its whole lifecycle, from creation through documentation, use, repurposing, storage, metadata, and preservation.

Appointment Process and Timelines

The Metadata & Collections Section Leadership Team and Technology Section Leadership Team will work together to solicit candidates in January of the year in which the NISO Representative's term ends. A candidate recommendation from the two Leadership Teams should include a short rationale for their selection. Once a candidate is identified, the Core Board will vote on the appointment. Upon approval of the Core Board, the new representative will serve a 2-year term as NISO Representative. Overlap with the current Representative will help with a smooth transition.

If for any reason a Representative is unable to complete their term, the two Core section leadership teams will identify and recommend a replacement to complete the term. This person will be eligible for a second term.
