2011 Fabulous Films for Young Adults

The Fabulous Films for Young Adults list identifies a body of films relating to a theme that will appeal to young adults ages 12-18 and is presented annually at the ALA Midwinter Meeting.

The 2011 Fabulous Films for Young Adults offers 40 titles based on the theme “Other Times/Other Places.” The list includes films, both fiction and nonfiction, that display teens reacting to the society around them and how they learn to become who they are. The complete list, including annotations, can be found at www.ala.org/yalsa/fabfilms.

"This is the first year we had more than 100 films nominated,” said Adrienne Butler, committee chair. “It was exciting to see that many titles and how the films themselves interpreted the theme which made for many an interesting discussion among the committee members. This is a strong and varied list, encompassing many different film genres with wide appeal to young adults.”

Members of the Fabulous Films for Young Adults Committee are:  Chair Adrienne Butler, Oklahoma Department of Libraries, Oklahoma City; Sarah Bean Thompson, Springfield-Greene County (Mo.) Library; Sarah Chaar, Emporia State (Kan.) University; Natalie Houston, Leesburg, Fla.; Melanie Metzger, Lone Star College, Cypress, Texas; Sarah Sogigian, Massachusetts Regional Library System, Waltham; Andrea Sowers, Joliet (Ill.)
