1991 Margaret A. Edwards Award Winner
Robert Cormier is the third recipient of the Margaret A. Edwards Award (formerly called the YASD/SLJ Author Achievement Award.) This award was created to honor an author whose work has been taken to heart by young adults over a period of years, providing an "authentic voice that continues to illuminate their experiences and emotions giving insight into their lives."
In presenting this award to Robert Cormier for three of his books -
After the First Death,
The Chocolate War, and
I Am the Cheese - the Young Adult Services Division recognizes that these books provide a window through which young adults can view the world.
Cormier's brilliantly crafted and troubling novels have achieved the status of classics in young adult literature.
In recognition of his outstanding contribution to literature for young adults, we present the Margaret A. Edwards Award to Robert Cormier.
