Three Jovial Huntsmen

by Susan Jeffers, and published by Bradbury

The book cover of "Three Jovial Huntsmen" by Susan Jeffers features three huntsmen standing under a tree at the top of a rocky hill. Arrayed in a cutaway view below them are animals, including wolf cubs, bears in a den, a squirrel, rabbits and prairie dogs in burrows as well as partridges and a turtle. The Randolph Caldecott Medal Award Seal has been affixed to the upper left, below the title.

About

The beautiful soft pen-and-ink drawings, with an overlay of colors, produce a lovely picture book based on the old nursery rhyme about the three hunters, who, though they hunted all day and all night, saw only a sailing ship, a cheese, and a pin cushion. The reader enjoys a huge joke as he sees the many merry animals skillfully hidden among the tree trunks, between the roots and branches, and above the hunters' heads.
