Carl Sandburg (1878-1967), the Pulitzer Prize-winning poet and Lincoln biographer, was born in a three-room cottage adjacent to the site and grew up in Galesburg.
The Literary Landmark dedication ceremony took place at The Barn on the grounds of the Carl Sandburg State Historic Site, during the 20th annual Carl Sandburg Festival. The crowd was welcomed to the event by the sound of folk music playing in the background by John Heasley, a Galesburg musician. The ceremony featured Robin DeMott, founder of the Carl Sandburg Festival; Anne Craig, director of the Illinois State Library; Kevin Stein, Illinois’ fourth Poet Laureate; Dr. Barry Swanson, president of the Sandburg Historic Site Association, and more.
