The home of Ernest Lyons was designated a Literary Landmark by the Florida Center for the Book on May 23, 1992. The house is located at 315 Seminole St. in Stuart, Florida.
Lyons was born on March 4, 1905 in Laurel, Mississippi. After dropping out of school and working numerous jobs, Lyons was employed by Edwin Menninger at The Stuart News in 1931 as a reporter.
Lyons worked for The Stuart News for 44 years in numerous departments. He served as editor from 1945 to 1975. Lyons also wrote fiction for national publications, commentaries, and editorials on the environmental movement in Florida.
Lyons retired from The Stuart News in 1975. He died on April 6, 1990 at his home on Seminole Street.
