Using E-Government Resources is an increasingly important part of librarianship. Public records, archives, goverment repositories and other forms of government documents are more likely to be created digitally, and older documents are being digitized every day. To help you understand and unleash the potential of these resources, ALA Editions is offering a new eCourse, Cutting the Red Tape: Finding and Using E-Government Tools and Resources with Diane Kovacs, a government documents librarian and experienced online instructor.
E-government tools and resources bring many people to your library for activities like filing and paying taxes online, locating Medicare/Medicaid providers and reviews, checking student loan status, tracking regulatory changes for industries, monitoring ongoing legislation as well as codified law and court rulings, and much more. This hands-on online eCourse also explores the information treasures published online by the U. S. federal government through the Government Printing Office and specific agencies and branches of the government.

Diane Kovacs is President of Kovacs Consulting - Internet &Web Training. She has been a Web Teacher and Consultant for nearly 20 years. She designs and teaches Web-based and in-person courses for organizations and individuals including UIUC GSLIS LEEP, ACRL, MLA, SLA, NEO-RLS, NTRLS, SEFLIN, WNYRLC, and others. Diane has been designing and teaching Web-based and in-person MLA Approved CE Courses since 2001. Diane Kovacs is the 2000 recipient of the "Documents to the People" award from the Government Documents Roundtable of the American Library Association. She is the author of several books, most recently The Kovacs Guide to Electronic Library Collection Development: Essential Core Subject Collections, Selection Criteria, and Guidelines, 2nd Edition.
