Tabs

Use the Tabs content type to assemble and display a series of blocks on your microsite. Tabs can be used to display RSS feeds, Twitter feeds, tagged content or HTML content, and you can have different tab groups displayed on different pages. It works best if you create Tabs before creating a Tab Group. Visit the Tab Group instruction page for more information on placing tabs with tab groups.

This section provides instructions for implementing the available types of Tab content.

Filtered Content Tab

Use a Filtered Content Tab to create a tab that will allow for taxonomy terms to determine what shows up in the tab. To create a Filtered Content Tab, follow these steps:

  1. Log in and click the “Content” link in the admin menu.
  2. Click the “+ Add content” link.
  3. Click the “Tab” link.
  4. Enter the title for the Tab in the “Title” field.
  5. Select which types of content to include from the “Is ANY of these content types” tab.
    1. Deselect any types of content that were pre-selected that you wish to exclude from the tab.
  6. Select the values within the various taxonomy fields, for the tab that is appropriate to display the results you want.
    1. Has ALL of these tags (means the page must have every item you choose in order to show up in the results)
    2. Has ANY of these tags (means that a result item only needs to have one of the selections to show up in the resulting display)
    3. Has NONE of these tags (means that a result item will exclude one of the selections listed)
  7. Click on the “Additional Options” tab.
  8. Select which sites you want searched by the query.
  9. Choose the order in which you want the resulting list sorted.
  10. Choose the number of “Items Shown” using the dropdown menu.
  11. Update “Weight” to determine order the tab should appear within the tab group (left=1, middle=2, right=3).
  12. Click on “Header Color” icon to expand color selector field. You can drag your mouse to pick color or enter color hex code chosen from your site’s style guide.
  13. Enter your text content into the “Body” area. You can include relevant links in the text to be displayed in the tab. For more on formatting your text, review the formatting content section.
  14. Click “Save” at the bottom of the page.

URL RSS Feed Tab

Use a RSS Feed Tab to create a tab with an RSS feed URL. To create an RSS Feed Tab, follow these steps:

  1. Log in and click the “Content” link in the admin menu.
  2. Click the “+ Add content” link.
  3. Click the “Tab” link.
  4. Enter the title for the Tab in the “Title” field.
  5. Deselect all types of content that were pre-selected.
  6. Paste the link from the RSS feed into the “RSS Feed” field.
  7. Choose the order in which you want the resulting list sorted.
  8. Update “Weight” to determine order the tab should appear within the tab group (left=1, middle=2, right=3).
  9. Click on “Header Color” icon to expand color selector field. You can drag your mouse to pick color or enter color hex code chosen from your site’s style guide.
  10. Enter your text content into the “Body” area. You can include relevant links in the text to be displayed in the tab. For more on formatting your text, review the formatting content section.
  11. Click “Save” at the bottom of the page.



Taxonomy Term RSS Feed Tab

Use a Taxonomy Term RSS Feed Tab create a Tab using a RSS feed from a taxonomy page. To create an RSS feed from a taxonomy term, follow these steps:

  1. View desired Taxonomy term list page.
    1. Example: News Stories using the “Great Stories Club” tag. http://www.ala.org/news/taxonomy/term/2310 
    2. Observe node ID number (2310)
  2. Replace #### with the node ID - http://www.ala.org/news/feed/###/rss.xml 
    1. Example: http://www.ala.org/news/feed/2310/rss.xml
  3. Copy this RSS URL.
  4. Follow instructions for creating an RSS Tab in the URL RSS Feed Tab section above to create tab.

Twitter Feed Tab

Use a Twitter Feed Tab to create a Tab using a Twitter feed. To create a Twitter Feed tab, follow these steps:

Note: ALA Twitter Feed Module needs to be enabled before creating the Tab.

  1. Log in and click the “Content” link in the admin menu.
  2. Click the “+ Add content” link.
  3. Click the “Tab” link.
  4. Enter the title for the Tab in the “Title” field.
  5. Deselect all types of content that were pre-selected from the “Is ANY of these content types” section.
  6. In the “Twitter feed” field, enter the hashtag or account username to display. Make sure to use the # or @ prefix, (e.g. @user or #hashtag).
  7. Update “Weight” to determine order the tab should appear within the tab group (left=1, middle=2, right=3).
  8. Click on “Header Color” icon to expand color selector field. You can drag your mouse to pick color or enter color hex code chosen from your site’s style guide.
  9. Enter your text content into the “Body” area. You can include relevant links in the text to be displayed in the tab. For more on formatting your text, review the formatting content section.
  10. Click “Save” at the bottom of the page.

Tagged Content Feed Tab

Use a Tagged Content Feed Tab to create Tabs that will allow for taxonomy terms to determine what shows up in the Tab. To create a Tagged Content Tab, follow these steps:

  1. Log in and click the “Content” link in the admin menu.
  2. Click the “+ Add content” link.
  3. Click the “Tab” link.
  4. Enter the title for the Tab in the “Title” field.
  5. Enter tags to include.
    1. Has ALL of these tags - Terms included here will be inclusive, as with a Boolean AND statement. All the terms must be true for results to show up.
    2. Has ANY of these tags - Terms added here will imply an OR statement, meaning that the items just have to have one term true for results to show up.
  6. Choose to sort results by Date (most current) or Title (alpha) from the “Display Type” dropdown.
  7. Select which types of content to include from the “Is ANY of these content types” tab.
    1. Deselect any types of content that were pre-selected that you wish to exclude from the tab.
  8. Click on the “Additional Options” tab.
  9. Select which sites you want searched by the query.
  10. Choose the order in which you want the resulting list sorted.
  11. Update “Weight” to determine order the tab should appear within the tab group (left=1, middle=2, right=3).

Featured Content Tab on ALA.org homepage

To use a Featured Content Tab on ALA.org, follow these steps:

  1. To add content to this tab make sure these taxonomies are selected on the content page.
    1. ALA Units: “American Library Association”
    2. Items ALA Generates: “Featured Content”
