Insert Image (How To)

Step 1: Select Insert Image in the WYSIWYG editor

Select Insert Image from the Main Content window. 

Edit image is called out. It's between the flag and the x2

Step 2: Click Open in the File Upload button

Step 3: Browse for the image

Select Browse Server in the resulting window.

Browse server button is called out. It's next to the URL field.

Step 4: Select or Browse for Image

If the image is not already in the folder, click Upload and then Browse to find the image on your computer.

The upload button is called out.

Step 5: Upload file to website

Once you have the selected the image location on your computer showing in the file window, use the Upload button to upload the image to the website's media folder.

Step 6: Insert image onto page

Once you see your image in the list, select it and use the Insert file button to place the image on the webpage.

Insert File button is called out.

Step 7: Configure Image Properties

In the Image Properties window, your image selection location will appear in the URL window. 

  • In the Alternative Text field, add text about the image for accessibility and for users who are not able to view the image.
  • Use the Width and Height fields to adjust the image size.
  • Border, H Space (horizontal), V Space (vertical) and Border allow you to position the image, add whitespace and add a border.
  • Click OK when you're finished adjusting your image.

Step 8 (optional): Make the image into a link

The window's second tab is for links. If you want the image to link somewhere when the user clicks it, insert a URL in the field in the Link tab.

Set the target to open the URL in another window if your URL goes outside of ALA or if the user would be best served going to a new window.

Click OK when you're finished entering information.
