Activity Committees

Business Reference in Academic Libraries Committee 
Study, promote, and support the role of business reference in academic libraries.
 

Business Reference in Public Libraries Committee
Study, promote, and support the role of business reference in public libraries. This committee also administers the Public Librarian Support Award, sponsored by Morningstar, that will support the attendance at the ALA Annual conference of public librarians who are members of BRASS/RUSA, and to recruit public librarians as active members of BRASS.
 

Business Reference Services Discussion Group Steering Committee
Sponsor discussions at the ALA Annual Meeting and host virtual group discussions throughout the year.
 

Business Information Sources Committee
Study and identify the need for and improvement in business information sources both print and electronic and to promote communication between business librarians and the providers of business information. Showcase and create a dialog with publishers and information providers about their information products and resources by means of an annual Publishers’ Open Forum. Identify outstanding business information sources for recommendation in an annual column in Reference and User Services Quarterly (RUSQ).
 

Conference Program Planning Committee
Plan and produce the Section's annual Conference program.
 

Education Committee
Study and review the educational needs of business reference librarians and other librarians involved in providing business reference services; explore and encourage the development of competencies and continuing education programs in the area; and sponsor educational activities in the area.
 

Executive Committee 
Provide leadership, coordination and direction for BRASS, and act for and by the authority of the Section.
 

Membership Committee
Serve as one of the public relations arms of BRASS, with the aim of promoting increased membership and retaining existing members in the section; liaise with existing ALA divisions, sections, and roundtables with the goal of promoting the activities of BRASS; and advise the BRASS Executive Committee on increasing the visibility of BRASS's work to current and potential members.
 

Nominating Committee
Arrange for nomination of candidates for offices of the Section and for other members of the BRASS Executive Committee.
 

Vendor Relations Committee
Encourage and develop relationships between BRASS and the private sector or other entities for the support of BRASS activities, education, and services; develop other projects or means of recognition that promote business librarianship.

New Business Librarians Group
An interest group of business librarians within their first five years of professional work.

BRASS Academic Business Librarianship Travel Award Committee (Sponsored by Finaeon)
Administer an annual award, supported by Finaeon, that enables an individual new to the field of academic business librarianship to attend the ALA Annual Conference.
 

BRASS Excellence in Business Librarianship Award Committee (Sponsored by LSEG Data & Analytics)
Administer an annual award recognizing an individual who has distinguished themselves in the field of business librarianship.
 

BRASS Research Grant Award Committee (Sponsored by Dewey)
Administer an annual award supporting a research project in business librarianship. An annual award, donated by Dewey, is limited to an ALA member seeking support in conducting research in business librarianship.
 

BRASS Student Travel Award Committee (Sponsored by SimplyAnalytics) 
Administer an annual travel award that enables a student enrolled in an ALA accredited master's degree program to attend the ALA Conference.
