Learning As We Go: Using Scalable Strategies to Enhance Information Literacy Instruction

Faculty and librarians of the University of California-Davis partnered to create engaging, active remote learning experiences to develop the information research skills of students enrolled in a variety of courses, including Communication, Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science, First-Year Seminars and courses in the University Writing Program. Creating scalable instructional models requires constant iteration and improvement. This presentation will highlight the library modules developed and mapped to course and departmental learning outcomes, assess the impact the activities had on student learning and lessons learned. 


Learning Outcomes

By the end of this webinar, the participant will be able to:

  • Identify Strategies to build scalable solutions for library instruction
  • Create a baseline and evaluate if your instructional object is reaching its target
  • Explore some useful tools for incorporating assessment into your instructional model

This webinar is ideal for anyone who is building and evaluating instructional model. The presentation will demonstrate how assessment can be intentional, systematic, scalable, and sustainable.


Melissa Browne, a librarian at UC Davis. Her professional interests focus on collaborating with faculty to integrate research skills into undergraduate and graduate courses.

Erik Fausak, a librarian at Carlson Health Sciences Library at UC Davis. His professional interests include utilizing technology in the classroom and Evidence-based Veterinary Medicine.

Melinda Livas, a librarian at Shields Library. Her interests include connecting library research with artificial intelligence

Group rate: $99 single login

*DURING THIS TIME OF COVID-19 RELATED LIBRARY CLOSURES: For purposes of group registration, RUSA will define a group as up to 20 staff from a single library system working remotely and logging in individually from multiple locations to participate in the live webinar broadcast. It will be the responsibility of the registrants to share the webinar login information with members of their staff who wish to participate.
