BRASS: Student Travel Award sponsored by SimplyAnalytics

Charge

To administer an annual travel award that will enable a student enrolled in an ALA accredited master's degree program to attend the ALA Conference. In the event of extraordinary circumstances, such as the cancellation of the in-person ALA Annual conference, the award can be applied to other ALA-sponsored professional development opportunities.

Composition

There shall be 3-5 members appointed by the vice chair/chair elect of BRASS.
Members should represent reasonable diversity in geography, universities attended, and current professional employment.

Terms of Office
Members of the committee will serve for two years and shall be eligible for reappointment for a consecutive two-year term. Terms will be staggered so that continuity will be maintained.

The committee can function as a virtual committee.

Specific Duties
The members of the committee shall:

  • Communicate the award in a variety of channels, including listservs and social media.
  • Review applications and make the award.

The Chair of the committee shall:

  • Be responsible for organizing the documentation and compiling a list of nominees. The Chair downloads the applications from the online platform. Applications are not anonymized.
  • Respond to inquiries about the award from prospective applicants.
  • Call a meeting of the group to choose the winner before the due date. The committee meets virtually. All committee discussions will be closed for members only.
  • Communicate decisions with the winner and other nominees.

Submission of Proposals
Proposals shall be submitted via an online platform by the due date specified.

Presentation of the Award
The formal announcement shall be made in coordination with RUSA. Presentation of the award is not required, but can be made at an event at ALA Annual Conference or a similar venue.
