The American Library Association (ALA) New Members Round Table (NMRT) is a stepping-stone to higher places. Membership in NMRT is a first step toward greater involvement within the American Library Association. By serving on NMRT committees or as a NMRT liaison, new members can quickly gain experience, skills and contacts that can help them further their careers and their professional involvement. NMRT guarantees an appointment to every volunteer. Committee involvement does not require experience, only willingness to work.
Attendance at ALA conferences is not required for committee involvement. However, attendance is strongly preferred for certain committees, as stated in the handbook.
