New to ALA, the Annual Conference, or Orlando? Attending the ALA/NMRT Orientation is a worthwhile start to your day. Come get tips from pros and grab an orientation bag that's full of information. As Walt Crawford wrote, "It’s not an orientation to the New Members Round Table; it’s an orientation for new attendees by NMRT. This program will feature two guest speakers, offering practical advice on getting hired and on balancing life and work. The first presentation is entitled "Get Hired Soon! Maximizing Your Post-Graduation Employability," and the second is called, “Balance your life; balance your career.” Come join us!

Join us as our panelists discuss practical leadership tips, such as how to run a committee effectively, how to delegate and how to use email to communicate clearly.

A social will be held at the Annual Conference to recognize recipients of the 3M Professional Development Grant and to provide an opportunity for NMRT members to network with one another. The Social will also include a dance.

The NMRT Student Reception is a great place for students and invited guests to network in a relaxed environment. Learn more about ALA units from their representatives and support the Student Chapter of the Year as that award is presented! Light refreshments served.

Conference Tips
The following are a few tips we have gathered over the years and conferences! Be sure to come to the New Members Round Table Orientation in Orlando on Saturday, June 26, 2004, 8:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. for more tips on surviving ALA Annual!
- Wear comfortable shoes
- Carry snacks and bottled water or juice in your bag
- Have a pen and pad of paper in your bag for taking notes
- Leave plenty of time to visit the exhibits
- Dress appropriately for interviewing if you will be using the job center
- Bring business cards to give to vendors and other librarians
- Plan for walking time between your meetings if they are in different hotels
