Greetings, NMRT members and friends!
The 2014-2015 year is already off to a great start! In addition to all of the vital services that NMRT committees provide every year to you'resume review, mentoring, opportunities to publish, etc. - we've got several new initiatives underway, some of which I talked about in the August Footnotes. We've now got an exciting addition to that list: Networking Director Tinamarie Vella is leading a team of folks who are organizing socials around the country to provide you with networking and socializing opportunities between conferences. The first round of socials took place in October, with more planned throughout the year. Email Tinamarie if you'd like to help organize a social in your area!
Midwinter may seem far off, but January will be here before you know it! If you're planning on going to Chicago this year, you'll want to keep an eye out for NMRT's program line-up. We'll have events fun (the Midwinter Social), informational (Conference Orientation; the Membership, Networking, and Committee Interest Meeting), and enlightening (the LLAMA/NMRT Discussion Group). I look forward to meeting many of you at these events! Want to get the most out of your Midwinter? Reserve a room in the NMRT block! Advance Registration for Midwinter ends January 23, and you can find tips for first-time attendees here.
And while we're on the subject of conferences - it's not too soon to think about how you'll pay for ALA Annual 2015 in The City by the Bay (San Francisco)! NMRT offers a number of partial conference scholarships (up to $1000) to current members. Watch our Awards, Grants & Scholarships page; applications for these awards start opening up this month.
I always love hearing from you, whether in person or virtually. Have a great idea for something you think NMRT could make happen? Just have a question or want to get involved? Give me a holler!
Megan Hodge NMRT President, 2014-2015
