NMRT 75th Anniversary Resolution

From the American Library Association

Whereas, the New Members Round Table (NMRT) of the American Library Association, dedicated to the professional development of current and future leaders in library and information services, celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2007, and

Whereas, since its establishment in 1932 as the Junior Members Round Table (JMRT), NMRT has been instrumental in the professional development of future leaders of the association and profession, and

Whereas NMRT fosters membership, leadership, and participation for all new ALA members through its committees and activities including:

- professional and career development programs
- professional development grants and scholarships
- conference orientation programs, publications, and other path finding aids
- outreach to ALA student chapters;
- online discussion forums;
- mentoring;

Whereas, NMRT provides the organizational and administrative support for three major ALA Awards:

- The Shirley Olofson Award, named in honor of this former NMRT President, presented annually to defray costs to attend the ALA Annual Conference;
- The 3M Professional Development Grant, sponsored by 3M, to encourage professional development and participation by new ALA
members in national ALA and NMRT activities, and
- The Student Chapter of the Year Award, which recognizes a chapter's outstanding contributions to the American Library Association, their school, and the profession;

Now therefore, be it resolved that the American Library Association congratulates and commends the New Members Round Table for 75 years of excellence in the development of current and future leaders in library and information services.
