President's Column

by Deana Groves

Greeting NMRT members! It's conference time again; the ALA Annual Conference is scheduled for June 23-28th in beautiful historic New Orleans. NMRT will once again be providing helpful conference orientations, exciting programs, and fun social events. Please monitor the NMRT web site, blog and Connect for times and locations.

If this is your first ALA annual conference, then I hope to see you at one of the NMRT conference orientations. Here you will find great conference tips as well as have the opportunity to ask your specific questions of the panelists.

Also, be sure to stop by the NMRT student reception on Sunday evening where we will be honoring the student chapter of the year and runner-up chapter. During this event, the NMRT Annual Program Committee will also preview the winning video from their contest. You can find more information on how you can submit a video entry here.

I am very excited about this year's president program, Seizing Opportunities to Serve: Professional Involvement, Local to National. This program will be presented by four panelists who will discuss and share their professional involvement in a variety of traditional and non-traditional organizations.

The NMRT Awards Committee is teaming up with the LeRoy C. Merritt Humanitarian Fund to host a reception in the New Orleans Art District to honor our Shirley Olofson Memorial award winner and the 3M/NMRT Professional Development Grant winners in style. Please come out to support our winners and enjoy an evening of fun.

Finally, I would like to congratulate our elected NMRT representatives:

  • Janel White, President Elect/Vice President
  • Rebecca Kate Miller, Secretary
  • Coral Sheldon-Hess, Member Services Director
  • Megan Hodge, Leadership Director
  • Susan Jennings, NMRT Councilor
  • Veronica L. C. Stevenson-Moudamane, Treasurer

Thanks to all who voted!

Safe travels to all and I look forward to seeing you in New Orleans!
