The New Members Round Table is pleased to announce that an NMRT Alumni membership category has been created. Many ALA members have continued to join NMRT after their 10-year mark because they wished to continue supporting the roundtable; now anyone who has been an ALA member for more than 10 years can join NMRT Alumni.
Dues for this new membership category are just $10.00 a year, and will be used to support NMRT scholarships and programs. Currently, NMRT plans to use the Alumni dues to fund the NMRT Student Reception and further contribute to the Shirley Olofson award fund.
Since 2003 NMRT has funded the Student Reception without any vendor support. The Student Reception welcomes library school students to the ALA annual conferences, provides a venue for the students to learn about ALA divisions and round tables, and celebrates the presentation of the ALA/NMRT Student Chapter of the Year award. The event is an opportunity for students to meet ALA leaders and become active in the organization.
The Shirley Olofson Memorial Award is presented annually by NMRT in honor of Shirley Olofson, a well-respected former NMRT President, who died during her term in office. The award helps defray travel costs to attend the ALA Annual Conference, and currently awards $1,000 to the recipient.
