  • New London - Mabel R. McKissick, 87, of 201 Hempstead St., a prominent member of New London community and retired librarian of New London High School, passed away peacefully Friday, March 20, 2009, at the Bridebrook Rehabilitation in Niantic.

    Mrs. McKissick was co-founder of the Coretta Scott King Book Awards and an OLOS tribute page is in progress. For more information about the history of the awards, visit our About page. If you would like to share stories and memories, please send them to cskbookawards@ala.org.
