Artificial Intelligence

The Transformative Technology Task Force advises the Public Library Association (PLA) on how new and emerging technology is reshaping library practice. The Task Force also recommends training priorities for staff and those they serve. Launched in 2026, its first two years are focused on artificial intelligence and public libraries. Following a January 2026 Town Hall and participant survey, the Task Force shared and reviewed resources requested by library staff to begin building this repository.

The following lists of links are organized into the categories public library staff most often ask for information on: policies, training for staff, and training for patrons/customers. In each category, we’ve curated a small set of examples. Whether you are looking for inspiration or examples for your own library and community, these samples are a starting point. Each models the way different libraries and organizations in particular contexts are developing AI related policies, programs, and services.  Use our guides to turn these frameworks into solutions that fit your unique needs.

This is a swiftly evolving topic, and the Task Force plans to regularly update these web pages. We invite you to share resources you value, AI use cases and training you have developed, and questions or requests that you have for PLA and the Task Force via this online form.
