Advancement of Literacy Award
This award recognized a publisher, bookseller and/or software dealer, foundation or similar group (that is, not an individual) which deserved national recognition for the advancement of literacy. Awarded 1984–2009. Sponsored by Library Journal.
Grow Your Own @ Your Library® Institutional Scholarships for Public Libraries
Addressed the education needs of public library staff working toward the ultimate goal of obtaining a master’s degree in library and information science. Awarded 2005–2010.
PLA Innovations in Literacy Scholarships
The PLA Innovations in Literacy Scholarships recognized innovative literacy programs of all types in public libraries. Eight $1,000 travel grants were awarded to winning applicants to be used for registration and travel to the PLA 2014 Conference in Indianapolis. Scholarships were supported by a generous donation from the Cambria Estate Winery, which has a strong tradition of supporting literacy initiatives.
PLA Leadership Fellows Scholarship Program
Provided PLA members who are public library managers a chance to attend executive leadership training at some of the best universities in the United States. Awarded 2009–2010.
