Whereas,
Libraries in the United States need to gather materials from Iraq to faithfully pursue their educational mission; and
Whereas,
Libraries in the United States are currently unable to purchase materials from Iraq due to the sanctions imposed by the U.S. Department of Treasury Office of Foreign Asset Control; and
Whereas,
All other countries listed in the sanction programs have exemptions for educational materials; therefore be it
Resolved,
That ALA requests that the U.S. Department of Treasury Office of Foreign Asset Control exempt educational materials from the sanctions imposed on Iraq.
