The ALA Medal of Excellence is an annual award recognizing outstanding recent creative leadership, especially in the areas of library management, library training, cataloging and classification, as well as the tools and techniques associated with librarianship. 

This award is given each year and comprises a monetary prize of $2,000, accompanied by a citation elegantly framed in 24K gold.

Award name changed in 2020, from the Melvil Dewey Medal to the ALA Medal of Excellence.
