Chillin’ at Midwinter

On Saturday night of Midwinter 2010 weekend, nearly 100 librarians converged upon Boston's historic Bell-in-Hand Tavern to chillout, enjoy some munchies, connect with old friends and meet new ones.

In addition to enjoying pigs in a blanket, chicken fingers, phyllo spinach squares and mini quiche, attendees also had the opportunity to win a variety of door prizes, from tote bags to water bottles to thumb drives. More than 30 door prizes were donated by the NMRT Midwinter Social Committee. Attendees also enjoyed beverages from the bar, and one was even treated to a book drawn into the foam of her Guinness.

Social events such as these are a great way to relax after a long day of presentations and navigating the vendor booths -- they're also a fun way to check out the town. The Bell in Hand is Boston's oldest tavern, dating back to 1795. One can only imagine what it was like to be at the tavern in those days; certainly they were not able to watch the New Orleans Saints beat up on the Arizona Cardinals in the NFL playoffs!
