By 3M/NMRT Professional Development Grant Award Committee

Katie Dunneback, Deana Groves, and Kate Zoellner have been selected as the 2008 recipients of the 3M/NMRT Professional Development Grant. This grant, sponsored by 3M Library Systems, covers round-trip airfare, lodging and conference registration fees for attendance at the American Library Association Annual Conference.

Katie Dunneback is the Consultant for Southeastern Library Services in Bettendorf , IA where she coordinates continuing education opportunities and serves as a resource on technology and adult services issues, among many other duties, for a 15-county region of southeast Iowa . Katie's passion is reader's advisory and has contributed the practitioner's point of view for a chapter to the recent ALA Editions release "Research-Based Readers' Advisory" edited by Jessica E. Moyer. She also served on the inaugural Reading List Council of RUSA to recognize excellence in adult genre fiction. She credits her experiences in NMRT as a committee member, committee chair, and eventually the Member Services Director for helping her develop into a young librarian who is comfortable in a leadership role.

Deana Groves is the Education Catalog Librarian at the Western Kentucky University located in Bowling Green Kentucky. She obtained her Master of Library and Information Science degree in 2003 from the University of Hawaii. Deana has worked on many NMRT committees and currently serves as co-chair for the Scholarship, Research and Writing Committee and is the liaison for the International Relations Round Table. She was recently appointed as an intern to the ALA Awards Committee and is also an active member of the Kentucky Library Association where she chairs the Academic Section ACRL Committee. Deana will spend her time at the ALA Annual Conference volunteering and attending meetings in order to learn more about the internal workings of ALA in order to advance her leadership role within NMRT.

Kate Zoellner is Education Librarian and Assessment Coordinator at the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Library at The University of Montana. She received her Masters in Information Science from The University of Michigan in 2005. Kate is a member of the NMRT Orientations Committee, EBSS Instruction for Educators Committee, the ACRL 2009 Green Component Committee, and is active in the Montana Library Association. While attending the ALA Annual Conference, Kate hopes to expand her assessment and instruction knowledge, share ideas with colleagues, and contribute to the profession.

3M Library Systems markets materials flow management products to libraries to prevent unauthorized borrowing and to streamline the flow of library materials. Since its inception, almost 100 NMRT members have benefited from this grant. The committee would like to congratulate the recipients of the 3M/NMRT Professional Development Grant as well as thank 3M for its continued support of NMRT and its programs.
