Lynn Brunelle and Jason Chin, author and illustrator of “Life After Whale: The Amazing Ecosystem of a Whale Fall,” were named the winners of the 2025 Robert F. Sibert Medal for the most distinguished informational book for children published in 2024.

Yonder, an imprint of Restless Books for Young Readers, is the winner of the 2025 Mildred L. Batchelder Award for “John the Skeleton.” The award was announced today by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), during the ALA’s LibLearnX: The Library Learning Experience held January 24 – 27 in Phoenix.

Carole Boston Weatherford is the winner of the 2025 Children's Literature Legacy Award honoring an author or illustrator, published in the United States, whose books have made a significant and lasting contribution to literature for children. Her numerous works include "Unspeakable: The Tulsa Race Massacre" (Carolrhoda Books, 2021) and "BOX: Henry Brown Mails Himself to Freedom" (Candlewick, 2020).

Dreamscape Audio, producer of the audiobook "A Plate of Hope: The Inspiring Story of Chef José Andrés and World Central Kitchen,” has won the 2025 Odyssey Award for Excellence in Audiobook Production for Children. HarperAudio, producer of the audiobook "How the Boogeyman Became a Poet,” has won the 2025 Odyssey Award for Excellence in Audiobook Production for Young Adults.

“Brownstone,” written by Samuel Teer, illustrated by Mar Julia and co-published by Versify and HarperAlley, imprints of HarperCollins Publishers, has won the 2025 Michael L. Printz Award for Excellence in Young Adult Literature. The Printz Award is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

“Rising from the Ashes: Los Angeles, 1992. Edward Jae Song Lee, Latasha Harlins, Rodney King, and a City on Fire,” written by Paula Yoo, has been named the 2025 winner of the YALSA Excellence in Nonfiction for Young Adults Award, the first national award that honors the best nonfiction books for teens. The book is published by Norton Young Readers, an imprint of W.W. Norton & Company.

“Not Like Other Girls,” written by Meredith Adamo, has been named the 2025 winner of the William C. Morris YA Debut Award, which honors a book published by a first-time author. The book is published by Bloomsbury YA, an imprint of Bloomsbury Publishing.

Tiffany D. Jackson is the recipient of the 2025 Margaret A. Edwards Award, honoring her significant and lasting contribution to writing for teens for “Allegedly,” “The Awakening of Malcolm X” (co-written with Ilyasah Shabazz), “Grown,” “Let Me Hear a Rhyme,” “The Long Walk” (a short story from the collaborative novel “Blackout”), “Monday’s Not Coming,” and “White Smoke.”

Jason Reynolds, author of "Twenty-four Seconds from Now...” and C.G. Esperanza, illustrator of "My Daddy is a Cowboy,” are the winners of the 2025 Coretta Scott King Book Awards honoring African American authors and illustrators of outstanding books for children and young adults. Craig Kofi Farmer, author of "Kwame Crashes the Underworld,” and Jamiel Law, illustrator of "Jimmy’s Rhythm & Blues: The Extraordinary Life of James Baldwin,” are the Coretta Scott King/John Steptoe Award for New Talent winners.
