Booth receives FTRF Gordon M. Conable Conference Scholarship

CHICAGO — The Freedom to Read Foundation (FTRF) has named Steven Booth, an archivist with the Presidential Materials Division at the National Archives and Records Administration,  the fifth recipient of the Gordon M.

Parrilli wins ALTAFF/Gale Outstanding Trustee Conference Grant

PHILADELPHIA —  The Association of Library Trustees, Advocates, Friends and Foundations (ALTAFF), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), has awarded the 2012 ALTAFF/Gale Outstanding Trustee Conference Grant to Karen Parrilli, a member of the Board of Trustees at Skokie (Ill.) Public Library. Parrilli will receive $850 plus full conference registration to attend the 2012 ALA Annual Conference June 21-26 in Anaheim, Calif. A formal presentation to Parilli will be made at the conference.

University of Michigan’s Ilana Barnes wins business librarian travel grant for ALA Annual Conference

CHICAGO - Ilana Barnes, circulation supervisor and reference assistant at the University of Michigan Kresge Business Administration Library and a student at the University of Michigan’s School of Information, is the 2012 recipient of the BRASS Gale Cengage Learning Student Travel Award, a travel grant given annually by the Reference and User Services Association’s (RUSA) Business Reference and Services Section (BRASS).

Virginia Beach (Va.) Public Library wins the H.W. Wilson Library Staff Development Grant

CHICAGO — The American Library Association (ALA) has chosen the Virginia Beach (Va.) Public Library as the winner of the 2012 H.W. Wilson Staff Development Grant, for its innovative concept of a hands-on staff training program entitled “Petting Zoo.” 

AASL Innovative Reading Grant awarded to Kristine Klopp

CHICAGO — Kristine Klopp’s  project,  “Square Off for Reading!,” is the 2012 recipient of the American Association of School Librarians' (AASL) Innovative Reading Grant. Sponsored by Capstone, this grant of $2,500 supports the planning and implementation of a unique and innovative program for children that motivates and encourages reading, especially with struggling readers.

ABC-CLIO Leadership Grant awarded to the Iowa Association of School Librarians

CHICAGO – The Iowa Association of School Librarians (IASL) and its program “Growing the Next Generation of Leaders: A Leadership Academy,” were named the winner of the 2012 American Association of School Librarians' (AASL) ABC-CLIO Leadership Grant. Established in 1986 and sponsored by ABC-CLIO, the grant of $1,750 is given to school library associations that are AASL affiliates for planning and implementing leadership programs at the state, regional or local levels.

AASL Research Grants awarded to Ann Dutton Ewbank and Daniella Smith

CHICAGO — Researchers Ann Dutton Ewbank from Arizona and Daniella Smith from Texas are the 2012 recipients of the American Association of School Librarian’s (AASL) Research Grant sponsored by Capstone. Established in 1993, AASL Research Grants are given to up to two school librarians, library educators or library information science or education professors to conduct innovative research aimed at measuring and evaluating the impact of school library programs on learning and education.

PLA award winners represent excellence in public libraries
