Apply for the Friends of ALSC preconference scholarship

CHICAGO - The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) and the Friends of ALSC are offering two scholarships to the 2013 ALSC Preconference, A Wild Ride: 75 Years of the Caldecott Medal. The Preconference is taking place from 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Friday, June 28, 2013 at the Art Institute of Chicago.

YALSA honors four members with YALSA Writing Award

Hutton named 2013 Routledge Distance Learning Librarianship Conference Sponsorship Award winner

CHICAGO – Jane M. Hutton, electronic resources/reference librarian and assistant professor at West Chester University, has been named the 2013 recipient of the Routledge Distance Learning Librarianship Conference Sponsorship Award.

Deadlines approaching for submissions for the Jesse H. Shera Awards in support of research

CHICAGO - The Library Research Round Table (LRRT) of the American Library Association is inviting submissions for two awards named for Jesse H. Shera. The deadline for submissions is Friday, March 29, 2013.

Anson and Wackerbarth receive 2013 Bechtel Fellowship

CHICAGO - The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) and the Special Collections and Bechtel Fellowship Committee have awarded the 2013 Louise Seaman Bechtel Fellowship to Alison Anson and Susan Wackerbarth.

ALSC announces winners of El dia de los ninos/El dia de los libros Family Book Club mini-grants

CHICAGO - The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) is announcing the winners of the El dia de los ninos/El dia de los libros Family Book Club mini-grants. Twelve libraries were chosen to receive $5,000 each to offer a Dia Family Book Club.  These clubs will utilize multi-cultural, multi-lingual or second language books to provide an opportunity for the community to come together.  The mini-grants are part of ALSC’s Everyone Reads @ your library grant, generously funded by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.

Citizens-Save-Libraries grant application deadline extended to April 15

PHILADELPHIA — Applications for the Citizens-Save-Libraries grants from United for Libraries, made possible by a grant from the Neal-Schuman Foundation, are due April 15, 2013.

The 20 grants will support advocacy at the local level for libraries with troubled budgets by sending expert advocates to library sites over the next two years. The expert advocates will help friends of the library groups, library directors and trustees develop individual blueprints for advocacy campaigns to restore, increase or save threatened library budgets.

Burke County Public Library receives 2013 Light the Way Grant

CHICAGO - The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), and the Library Services to Special Population Children and their Caregivers Committee are announcing that Burke County Public Library is the recipient of the 2013 Light the Way: Library Outreach to the Underserved Grant. As the winner of the grant, the library will receive $3,000 for their Outreach to the Hearing Impaired project.

New literacy scholarships award $1,000 to attend PLA 2014

CHICAGO – From now until March 29, the Public Library Association (PLA) is accepting applications for eight Innovations in Literacy Scholarships to recognize original literacy programs of all types in public libraries. Grants in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded to eight winning applicants for registration and travel to the PLA 2014 Conference in Indianapolis, March 11-15.
