Jenna Nemec-Loise receives YALSA’s YA Advocacy Travel Stipend to attend National Library Legislative Day

CHICAGO — The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), selected Jenna Nemec-Loise as the recipient of a stipend to attend ALA’s 39th annual National Library Legislative Day (NLLD) in Washington, D.C. May 7-8, 2013.  

2013 Bogle-Pratt International Library Travel Fund winner announced

CHICAGO - Araba Dawson-Andoh is the 2013 recipient of the American Library Association (ALA) International Relations Committee's "Bogle-Pratt International Library Travel Fund."

The Bogle Memorial Fund and the Pratt Institute School of Information and Library Science will provide a $1,000 cash award for Dawson-Andoh to attend her first international conference in Pretoria, South Africa.

'Animation for the Next Generation' wins 2013 Loleta D. Fyan Grant

CHICAGO - The North Shelby (Ala.) Library’s animation and drawing program, “Animation for the Next Generation” has been awarded the 2013 Loleta D. Fyan. The library plans a six-week program with the goal of training community teens in 21st century technologies that will increase their employability and assist them as they enter higher education. The program will culminate in a short film made by the participating teens.

Applications for Citizens-Save-Libraries grants due April 15

PHILADELPHIA - Applications for the Citizens-Save-Libraries grants from United for Libraries, made possible by a grant from the Neal-Schuman Foundation, are due April 15, 2013.

The 20 grants will support advocacy at the local level for libraries with troubled budgets by sending expert advocates to library sites over the next two years. The expert advocates will help friends of the library groups, library directors and trustees develop individual blueprints for advocacy campaigns to restore, increase or save threatened library budgets.

ALCTS Microgrants available

CHICAGO - The Transforming Collections Task Force of the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS) seeks proposals for its 2013 Microgrant Program. All ALCTS members in good standing are eligible to submit a proposal. The grants are designed to support and encourage innovative practices, emerging technologies and innovation in collections. The microgrants are intended for small projects or research initiatives in support of transforming collections.

RUSA award winners signify excellence in reference services
