2014 Amelia Bloomer List highlights feminist books for young readers

PHILADELPHIA — The Amelia Bloomer Project, a product of the ALA Social Responsibilities Round Table’s (SRRT) Feminist Taskforce, announced the 2014 Amelia Bloomer List at ALA’s Midwinter Meeting in Philadelphia, held Jan. 24-28, 2014.

The bibliography consists of well written and illustrated books with significant feminist content, intended for young readers from birth to 18 years old. This year’s list includes titles published between July 1, 2012 and Dec. 31, 2013.

Share your personal tribute to Dr. King at ALA Annual Conference

CHICAGO — The Martin Luther King, Jr. Task Force of the ALA Social Responsibilities Round Table (SRRT) and the Black Caucus of the American Library Association (BCALA) invite attendees of ALA’s Annual Conference to record their reflections on how the work and legacy of Dr. King has inspired them in their careers as librarians and information professionals. Tributes will be recorded from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 30 in Conference Room 4I at the Hilton Chicago.

Free webinar to highlight ways to build meaningful library experiences for those experiencing poverty and homelessness

CHICAGO – The ALA Office for Literacy and Outreach Services (OLOS) and the ALA Social Responsibilities Round Table (SRRT) will host a webinar expanding on the tips and tools in “Extending our Reach: Reducing Homelessness Through Library Engagement,” the latest outreach toolkit from OLOS and SRRT. This webinar will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Central time on Thursday, March 21 and is free and open to all who are interested in transforming libraries by building meaningful library experiences for all, especially poor and homeless patrons.

SEATTLE — The Amelia Bloomer Project, a product of the ALA Social Responsibilities Round Table’s (SRRT) Feminist Taskforce, announced the 2013 Amelia Bloomer List at ALA’s Midwinter Meeting in Seattle, held Jan. 25-29, 2013.

The bibliography consists of well written and illustrated books with significant feminist content, intended for young readers from birth to 18 years old. This year’s list includes more than 50  titles published between July 1, 2011 and Dec. 31, 2012.

Dr. Jeanne Theoharis to keynote celebration of Dr. King’s enduring legacy

CHICAGO — Jeanne Theoharis, professor of political science at Brooklyn College of the City University of New York, will keynote the 2013 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Sunrise Celebration during the American Library Association’s (ALA) Midwinter Meeting in Seattle.
