ALA unveils shortlist for 2014 Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction

CHICAGO —The American Library Association (ALA) today announced the six books shortlisted for the prestigious Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction. The medals are awarded for the best fiction and nonfiction books written for adults in the previous year and published in the U.S. As part of an announcement and medal presentation event at the 2014 ALA Annual Conference in Las Vegas in June, each winning author will receive $5,000 and the four finalists will each receive $1,500.

Richard Ford and Timothy Egan win Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction

CHICAGO — The American Library Association (ALA) is pleased to announce this year’s recipients of the Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction, which are funded through a grant from Carnegie Corporation of New York. Richard Ford’s “Canada” received the medal for fiction, and Timothy Egan’s “Short Nights of the Shadow Catcher: The Epic Life and Immortal Photographs of Edward Curtis” received the medal for nonfiction.

CHICAGO — The announcement and presentation of the second ever Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction, ALA’s new single-book awards for adult trade fiction and nonfiction, will take place during the ALA Annual Conference from 8 - 10 p.m. on Sunday, June 30. The event — standing-room only in 2012 — takes place at the Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel, Atlantic Ballroom.
